The best museums in the world are free.

Earlier this year I traveled to the beautiful city of Paris and I, like many artists, made the pilgrimage to the worlds most famous museum, The Louvre. This is the place that holds art from the masters; Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Delacroix, as well as 35,000 other pieces of art. Not only was it the first art museum ever, it was by far the largest.

On my way back from my trip I started to think of the other famous museums; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Musee d’Orsay, Tate Modern, The National Gallery, and now The Internet.

All of the places mentioned above are where you can go and view some of the most innovative art and design the world has to offer, for absolutely free. But the Internet is the only place on that list where you, as an artist, can get your artwork shown. The Internet is the only place mentioned that is not actually a physical place, but yet holds more original art than all the museums of the world combined.

Ah yes, the Internet.
There are no curators, no maps, no guided tours, or even walking. It all just kind of sits there, waiting to be discovered. On an artists personal website or blog, on Flickr or YouTube, or just a click away through a link someone sent you.

We, as artists, live in a exciting time in the history of art.
You don’t have to be famous and you don’t have to now anyone that works in “The Industry”. The traditional barrier of “getting your work out there” is gone, and the costs associated to do so are close to zero.
